Our 30th season! Singer and educator Marisa Gaetanne leads Choral Stage in its 29th year to create a relevant ‘show’ drawn from music and dance numbers from old and new musicals and the classical, jazz and choral repertoires. Campers will create the story, and write the dialogue in workshop with a superb team of professionals, while making friends, receiving expert vocal and dance instruction, enjoying theatre games and improving their musicianship skills! A free semi-staged show is presented for family & friends on the last day of camp at 5pm in the superb acoustic of the West Point Grey United Church Sanctuary.
Week 1: Learning the music. Vocal, movement and acting skills. Musicianship skill building for younger singers. Pop Interpretation and song delivery for older singers. Solos, duets, trios and tutti repertoire. Build the Theme together. Week 2: Choreography & Staging for our Grand Finale show on the final day of ChoralStage! This year it will include pop songs with a back up band! Solos and small ensemble work will be encouraged. Singers wishing to do solo work should prepare a short song for audition on the first day. Dancers will be auditioned on Day 1 also for small ensemble work.

Meet our 2020 faculty!
MARISA GAETANNE, M.Mus. won the prestigious Eckhardt Gramattee Competition and the Northwest District Metropolitan Opera Auditions after studying in London, New York and Florence. Known for her beautiful coloratura voice and vivacious personality, Ms. Gaetanne has sung professionally with solo recitals and orchestral engagements such as Mahler’s 8th Symphony, the Chorfest 2000 Brahms Requiem, and many performances of Carmina Burana. She has taught voice at UBC for the last 25 years and also taught at VCC for many years. After 20 years as conductor, Ms. G was appointed Music Director of the Vancouver Bach Children’s Chorus and Youth Choirs in 2009, Ms. Gaetanne has a background teaching Kodaly and Orff techniques for young children. She works to foster the personal and social growth of her students by creating a rehearsal atmosphere that promotes self-esteem, discipline, and a sense of accomplishment and pride. Pianist KIN MING WONG M.Mus. LLCM ARCT has worked with MS G for many years in her UBC studio, VBCC rehearsals and CStage. His enthusiasm for music and theatre is infectious and he can play anything. He has a large private piano studio and is on faculty at the Vancouver Academy of Music.
AVA MARIA SAFAI is a multi-talented singer-songwriter who performs and directs actively throughout the province. Following the placement of her first single “Finding Hope” on Lifetime’s Dance Moms, Ava Maria released two original albums. She has garnered over one million views on YouTube, been featured in Maclean’s magazine, and was selected as The North Shore News’ “Favourite Local Celebrity.” Ava Maria graduates in April 2020 with her BFA in Acting from UBC and is currently working towards her ARCT in Piano and Voice. ISABELLA HALLADAY is a Vancouver-based singer, actress, dancer, choreographer and improvisor, who has been happily singing away since she could first talk! She graduated with her Bachelors of Music from the University of British Columbia studying Opera Performance, during which she performed across Canada and Europe. Since then, she has performed across BC in musicals, dance, opera and theatre. Select credits include: King Herod, Jesus Christ Superstar (URP); Lulu, Cabaret (Royal City Musical Theatre); Frasquita, Carmen (Burnaby Lyric Opera). She also currently improvises long form Shakespearian tragedies with Instant Theatre Company’s Shakespeare After Dark and musicals with Off Key Musical Improv. Isabella has sung with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and with choral groups such as Cor Flammae and the University Singers. She also teaches with Vancouver Opera’s educational programming, Stagecoach, Bard on the Beach and throughout the community, and is absolutely thrilled to be joining Choral Stage again this summer!
JACQUELINE BOLSTER is a graduate of The University of British Columbia’s bachelor of music and education program, where she studied voice with Marisa Gaetanne. During her time at UBC, she had the pleasure of singing with the University Singers at Carnegie Hall New York City, Christ Church Cathedral Dublin and the Canadian Rocky Mountain Music Festival in Banff. Jacqueline has worked with children for many years as a fine arts instructor for the City of Burnaby teaching private and group music lessons. She is thrilled to be returning for Choral Stage 2020!
AMANDA WU, B.MUS is a UBC Voice Graduate currently pursuing a Masters in Speech Pathology. Amanda's lovely soprano voice is perfect for young people to imitate and in addition to her music & voice instruction, Amanda will be the Administrative Assistant during the Camp.
