Voice Lessons for Young Singers

The talented singers below are offering voice lessons to young singers as part of Marisa Gaetanne's Mentorship/Teacher Training program. All Instructors have been trained by Marisa and have completed undergraduate degrees in Voice Performance or Opera at UBC or the equivalent.

Students at VoiceWorks Academy may book weekly or bi-weekly voice lessons. All lessons are for one hour. Most instructors will come to your home to teach the children; some have studio space arranged (please see instructor bios below). Marisa will help place the students with the appropriate instructors below and will oversee their progress.


FEES & PAYMENT:
Lessons times are booked and paid in advance. Fees are based on an hourly rate of $50 and may be paid by cheque (payable to VoiceWorks Academy) or email transfer.

Cancellation Policy: Your tutor will make up any lessons she is unable to attend as soon as possible. We ask that you give your tutor 24 hours notice of cancellation. Thank you.

Fiona McLachlin

  • Available for lessons at student's home.
Classically trained singer Ms. Fiona McLachlin holds a Bachelor of Applied Music Degree in Classical Voice Performance from Vancouver Community College as well as a Diploma and Certificate of Music in Classical Voice from Kwantlen Polytechnic University.  She has studied most recently with Marisa Gaetanne and has previously studied with Dale Throness and Lorraine Reinhardt. Fiona works for the Vancouver Bach Children's Chorus as Rehearsal Assistant to Artistic Director Marisa Gaetanne.

Christine Robinson

Christine is a bright and caring spirit with a deep love for helping and connecting with others. After having completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Opera Performance at UBC studying under Marisa Gaetanne, she is ecstatic to be bringing together her two loves – music, and working with others. The energy and boundless imagination of children are particularly delightful to her, and she is looking forward to fostering a love of music in them and exploring the possibilities that children offer. Christine works for the Vancouver Bach Children's Chorus as Rehearsal Assistant to Artistic Director Marisa Gaetanne.

Bahareh Poureslami

  • Available to teach at students home.
Soprano Bahareh Poureslami, is a recent graduate from the UBC School of Music, with a Bachelor’s degree in Voice Performance, studying with Marisa Gaetanne. She received the People's Choice Award at the 2012 Metropolitan Auditions in Vancouver. Throughout her high school years at Burnaby Central Secondary, she took part in the concert winds ensemble and eventually joined choir in the ninth grade, where she immediately fell in love with singing. Bahareh works for the Vancouver Bach Children's Chorus as Rehearsal Assistant to Artistic Director Marisa Gaetanne.

Allison Harker

Allison completed her Bachelor degree in Opera Performance at the University of British Columbia in 2012. She is continuing her studies at UBC in the Diploma program, studying with Marisa Gaetanne. Allison is trained as a stage, musical theatre and operatic actress.

  • Has her own studio in East Vancouver. Also available to travel to students home.
Coloratura Jessie Wu is a vocal/violin instructor and holds a  Bachelor of Music degree from China. She has a Bachelor of Applied Music Degree in Classical Voice Performance from Vancouver Community College, where she studied under Marisa Gaetanne.

Maria Legayada

  • Has her own studio in Coquitlam. Also available to travel to students home.
Maria has been singing and performing music since she was five years old. At the age of 6, she began piano studies and earned first class honours in Royal Conservatory of Music examinations. Maria holds a B. Mus. in Music Education from UBC where she studied voice with Marisa Gaetanne. Maria is comfortable teaching classical voice, pop and R&B.
