Back by popular demand, an opportunity for young singers (ages 11–18) to improve their grasp of sight reading, music theory, solfege, key signatures, rhythm and vocal technique.

Under the guidance of professional classical musicians, we will clap, stomp, move and sing our way through the material. We will put our new skills to
use rehearsing and learning about great repertoire from a variety
of styles which we will present to friends and family in a fun
concert on the final day!

Program subject to change. Minimum number of registrants
needed for course to run.
PLEASE NOTE:
Singers should bring a water bottle, lunch and 2 drinks for breaks each day. Comfy clothing is a must.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
A limited amount of financial assistance is available. To apply
for a scholarship or bursary, please attach a letter to justify
your request, and state the amount you are able to pay.

MORNA EDMUNDSON

Morna Edmundson is one of Canada’s best-known choral conductors with a strong reputation for excellence. Passionate since childhood about choral singing, she obtained degrees and diplomas in vocal music in Vancouver, Bellingham, and Stockholm, Sweden where her teachers included Eric Ericson 1987, she co-founded Elektra Women’s Choir with Diane Loomer, a treasured partnership that lasted 22 years. In 2009, Morna became Elektra’s sole. In Artistic Director, continuing the choir’s strong leadership role in concert presentation, commissioning, recording, and mentorship. For 14 years Morna shared her love of quality repertoire with a new generation of singers in her role as Associate Artistic Director of Coastal Sound Music Academy, where she was Music Director of the mixed-voice Youth Chamber Choir. She has adjudicated in North America and Asia, conducted honour choirs in several states, co-directed the American Choral Directors Association National Women’s Honour Choir, and gives frequent workshops with choirs of all ages.

MARISA GAETANNE

Marisa Gaetanne, M.Mus. Voice Performance (UBC), is known for her beautiful coloratura voice and vivacious personality. Ms. Gaetanne is a winner in the prestigious Eckhardt Gramattee Competition and the Northwest District Metropolitan Opera Auditions. After studying in London, New York and Florence, Ms. Gaetanne has sung professionally for more than 20 years with solo recitals and orchestral engagements such as Mahler’s 8th Symphony, the Chorfest 2000 Brahms Requiem, and many performances of Carmina Burana. She has taught voice at the University of British Columbia for the last 20 years and for ten years was Head of Voice at the Vancouver Community College School of Music. After 20 years as conductor of the younger choirs, Marisa was appointed Music Director of the Vancouver Bach Children’s Chorus and Youth Choirs project in July 2009, upon Bruce Pullan’s retirement. She conducts the Toccattas and Chorales as well as the Chorus itself. Ms. Gaetanne has also spent considerable time studying and teaching Kodaly and Orff techniques for young children, is a popular adjudicator, and gives workshops on vocal technique throughout the province.
