Maria Legayada
Maria has been singing and performing music since she was five years old. At the age of 6, she began piano studies and earned first class honours in Royal Conservatory of Music examinations. Maria holds a B. Mus. in Music Education from UBC where she studied voice with Marisa Gaetanne. Maria is comfortable teaching classical voice, pop and R&B. She has performed in musicals, benefit concerts, weddings and other special occasions. She has a certificate in Basic Musicianship, a diploma in Performing Arts from Douglas College, a Bachelor of Music Degree with a concentration in voice and music education from UBC and a Bachelor of Education Degree from UBC. She studied voice with Erica Northcott, Eric Hannan, Helen Lee and Marisa Gaetanne. "Marisa has taught me many techniques that improved my breathing, posture, stage presence and other important aspects that are involved in healthy singing. After every lesson, I felt that I could sing for hours. She continues to inspire me to continue singing and to teach children music."
Maria is a Choral Conductor at her church and is the Vocal Director of a praise and worship group called PS 98 (Psalm 98). She has performed in Australia and Spain for World Youth Day, Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Michael J. Fox theatre and many other venues. In addition, Maria has sung with the University Singers, Vancouver Cantata Singers and received the Tatsuo Hoshina Voice Award of Distinction from Douglas College and the Maurice Taylor Scholarship Music Award from UBC School of music. Recently, Maria has been recording some of her own compositions and covers and enjoys DJing for weddings, corporate parties and other events.
